I believe that everyone can benefit from questioning old patterns and ways of thinking that may feel instead, like absolute ways of being. Our stories can be told in a myriad of ways and it's my job to help you construct yours, in a way that enables healing from past struggles, congruence with authentic values and growth towards the future you deserve and dream of.
I believe in my client's strengths and know that it's these strengths as well as the willingness to be open, hopeful and curious, that are the keys to mental wellness and personal growth. And if you're not in the space to embody these qualities at the starting line, our sessions will be the safe space to cultivate them.
I have always been an ambitious, self-starter, with a "plan". And when that "plan" wasn't panning out in my early twenties, I struggled with who I was and what I wanted to do in this life. That ambition and self-assurance dwindled, I turned to alcohol to cope; and for a few years I felt very lost. My true path began after I let go of that crutch, got sober at the age of 29 and started on a spiritual journey of discovering the true me. During this time I realized that my career, which consisted of 12 years in corporate America and a transition to running my own financial services business in an attempt to "fix" the dissastisfaction, was never going to lead to fulfillment or allow me to get closer to my authentic purpose in this life.
So, I went back to school to get my Master's in psychology and from the minute I sat down in my first class, I knew I was in the right place. From there, True You Therapy & Wellness was born. My hope is to help people embark on the same soul searching exploration that I've been blessed to partake in. Everyone deserves to open themselves to the vast possibilites that exist outside of a "plan," (which is usually based on old stories or societal norms, but we'll get to that later) and to instead create a life they're excited to live. Whether life has thrown you a curveball, you're feeling dissatisfied with your current relationships, job or the state of your internal dialogue; or, if you're simply sick of doing the same thing over and over expecting different results... I've been there. And I'm holding the space, believing for you, until you can believe for yourself, that you get to choose differently and uncover the true you.
The stats: I have a masters degree in Clinical Psychology from Pepperdine University and spent the early part of my career at Southern California Counseling Center, counseling a wide range of clients with presenting issues such as depression, anxiety, relationship and career dissastisfaction, substance abuse, infidelity and compulsive behavior.
